We are always looking for individuals who are passionate about technology development, fundamental scientific discovery, and therapeutic development to join the team.

Relevant backgrounds in genome engineering, synthetic biology, genomics, or neuroscience are an asset, but not required. Individuals from diverse backgrounds including underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. We are looking for individuals who are determined, curious, and most importantly kind.

Due to high volume, applications following the below instructions will be given priority.

All applicants should contact Dr. McDiarmid with a CV and brief description of why they are interested in joining the lab. Include “[POSITION] inquiry” (e.g. “Graduate student inquiry”) in the subject line, as well as the following position-specific components:

Undergraduates: We have limited space available for undergraduates. We typically do not offer unpaid volunteer positions, as we aim to avoid practices that can perpetuate inequities in science. Instead, undergraduate students typically join the lab through credit-based opportunities, such as a Directed Studies or an Honours Thesis, and generally have at least a third-year standing when they begin. Summer and other full-time positions, including research assistantships and Co-op placements, are prioritized for students who have already completed credit-based research in the lab. There are exceptions to all of these general practices, and applicants are encouraged to discuss potential opportunities with Dr. McDiarmid.

Graduate Students: Can apply through the School of Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience graduate programs. Note that Canadian graduate programs typically do not have rotations, so applicants should contact Dr. McDiarmid in advance of submitting their application to discuss potential projects and space availability.

Postdoctoral Fellows: Include a brief cover letter describing prior work and future goals.

Technicians / staff: Include a brief description of relevant skills and experience.
